A Season for Every (Rescheduled!) Wedding

We’ve found two things to be true as we work with our couples to reschedule weddings: They’re either married to the season they’d originally picked and are willing to wait. Or they want to get married as soon as possible, so they don’t mind moving the date to another season.

If you’ve had to postpone your wedding, then perhaps you have feelings about the time of year you’d like to get married. We asked the event planners at The Gables at Chadds Ford to weigh in on what makes each season special. There’s a season for everyone, and we know you’ll find the right one for your perfect day!

Fall in Love With Autumn

Cooler temps, beautiful colors and rustic decor make autumn attractive. Lower temps mean less humidity, and less of a strain on hairdos and makeup. Autumn is a photographer’s dream, offering greens, yellows, oranges, reds and browns as backdrops; the colors also make for beautiful cake accents and decor.

Consider using nature as a decorating guide, and incorporate seasonal flowers, greens and candles into the aesthetic. Choose dishes with fall flair that highlight roasted mushrooms, slow-braised pork, or maybe a seasonal skewer.

Win With Winter

Traditionally a less popular wedding season, winter offers more availability at competitive pricing, comfy props (think pashminas or blankets!) and fewer weather worries. Since venues and vendors should be less booked, you’re likely to find great discounts, especially if you book on a Sunday or a weekday.

Romance takes a front seat in the winter with ruby reds, dark greens, silver and gold, which you can carry through the entire event’s theme, from invitations to dessert. With a little luck, you’ll have just the right amount of snow to make the day — and your photos — positively magical. Create a warming winter menu with roasted prime rib, seasonal pasta, and rich sides, like garlic mashed potatoes and creamy Parmesan risotto.

Savor Springtime

This is the season to look at outdoor options, and to embrace bright colors and flowers for decor and attire. Covered patios or tents can give you a bit of security when planning an outdoor wedding, which can be traditional and formal, or more casual: Think food stations, lawn games and vows under a trellis.

Spring is about new starts, as well as a rainbow of colors that tend toward pastel but can pull inspiration from grasses, trees and flowers. Look for menu items that feature fresh veggies, such as haricots vert, carrots and asparagus — perhaps even a vegetarian entree, too!

Stick With Summer

Still the most popular time of the year for weddings, summer shares a lot of spring’s benefits — alfresco options, outdoor games, vibrant flowers to steer decor and dress — but with hotter temps and higher humidity!

Work with your event coordinator to make sure an outdoor venue is well-cooled and, if possible, to incorporate an indoor respite area, just in case. Other reasons that summer still is a go-to season include the longer days, spectacular sunsets for photos, and possibly more casual dress and seasonal favorites, like an ice cream station, and dishes that feature BBQ and seafood. Summer makes us feel as if the possibilities are endless!
