For many brides, the engagement comes as a surprise. Maybe that bended-knee moment is at a special dinner, during a hike to a favorite spot, on the beach, or in front of family and friends. For Devin Delargy, it came not only as a surprise but on national television: Her fiance, Casey Sheehan, knocked it out of the park on the Rachael Ray Show!
You might say the moment was beyond … delish.
How did he do it? Devin and Casey share the behind-the-scenes scoop on their bigger-than-life public engagement. Plus, a few words about those who need to reschedule their special day.
The Gables at Chadds Ford: Casey, how did you pull it off?
Casey Sheehan: It all started with a simple email and a little luck. I thought it would be a nice surprise for the holidays, knowing Devin is a fan of the show and her huge passion for cooking, to get tickets so I submitted a request online. The following day I received an email from the shows ticketing department with dates available, and as I was typing my reply, I must’ve become possessed because by the time I was done typing I had multiple paragraphs talking about Devin, how much she loves the show, what she means to me, how lucky I am to have met her and that I was going to make a day of it so I could propose to her before, after or maybe during the show. I really didn’t expect them to read it, but two days later I received a call from the show. Someone in ticketing had forwarded my email to a producer who said everyone at the show loved my idea. The rest is history!
What was it like to meet Rachael Ray and do the proposal on TV?
Rachael and her staff were nothing short of amazing! I truly believe they enjoyed that moment as much as we did. Rachael mentioned, at the commercial break after the proposal, that it was the best in-studio proposal they ever had in all the years of her show. That made both of us feel extra special in that moment, for sure! We had no idea she planned on gifting us a honeymoon to Barbados. We were both shocked and extremely appreciative that she chose to do this for us. We still can’t believe it!
How was Barbados?
It was amazing! Neither one of us had ever been there before. It was absolutely beautiful! We got to explore the whole island; it was a new adventure every day. We continued our honeymoon in St.Thomas, where we have really great friends. We had a day-adventure boating in Jost Van Dyke, and we also got to jump around to other islands and spend alone time in Anegada, St.John and Puerto Rico! Simply put: It was the best trip we have had to date; it will be hard to top, for sure.
How did you two meet?
Devin Delargy: We met online, even though we were both skeptical at first. We both wanted to meet someone serious about finding forever love, but, luckily, we both thought it was worth the chance. Obviously, it went very well!
Was the first date magical or awkward?
Our first date was amazing. We met up for what could have been one drink, but turned into five hours of wonderful conversation — we closed down the place! It was effortless to talk to one another. We both wanted to know more about each other and continued to connect on so many levels. After the first date we both secretly had strong feelings for each other, which we shared later down the road.

When did you know this was “it”?
We both knew pretty early in our relationship that we were each other’s “one” but held out to say it. I wanted Casey to say it first! I held out until he did. It happened the first time we went to visit our St. Thomas friends. We were out alone on their deck when he said he was in love with me. I said it back. I then asked when he knew this? He said pretty early on, but didn’t want to say it too early. I then said, “Well I’m glad you finally did because I felt that way, too, but wasn’t going to say it first.” We both laughed and then hugged and kissed. I knew in that moment he was going to be the one I spend the rest of my life with.
How did you know The Gables at Chadds Ford was the place for your wedding and reception?
We both love the outdoors, and the venue’s rustic feel of the outside brought in. We also have similar tastes in decor. When we were looking at venues, we went to see some places we thought would be what we wanted. Once we stepped onto The Gables property and saw the outside area where we would have our ceremony, and then the upstairs barn venue for our reception, it was love at first sight! I instantly started seeing how our wedding would look there. It was perfect in every way.
The food also turned our heads! I really wanted a special dinner for our reception. I wanted to have stations instead of a typical sit-down dinner. We had a beef tenderloin carving station, a build-your-own taste of Tuscany pasta station (made to order), and self-serve salad and vegetable stations. All of the food was delicious! I don’t think we can pick a favorite out of the food we had because we loved it all.
Of course, the staff were great. Kelly and Carol were the best. We loved working with them and they were pretty open about how much they loved working with us as well. So, I guess you can say it was a match made in heaven all around LOL.

What special touches were your favorites?
The wedding favors were mason jars with “The Adventure Begins,” our names and the date on the front, filled with twinkle lights. It took the ambiance of the tables to the next level.
The cake was also a funny story because we aren’t big fans of ordinary cakes. We decided on a mini dessert table for our guests. We had an assortment of different options for everyone to taste. During the process, The Gables made us a homemade mini (personal size) chocolate banana cake that we absolutely fell in love with. We asked them if we could have that as our own little wedding cake, and we did, and it was amazing!
Were there any surprises at the ceremony?
We had our ceremony performed by a Catholic priest on The Gables’ beautiful grounds. It was amazing. Casey added my favorite flower, peonies, to the already existing arch as a surprise. It brought tears to my eyes as it was perfect.
Anyone besides Rach and The Gables that you’d like to mention?
Our wedding would not have happened the way we saw it if it weren’t for my parents, Bernie and Maria Delargey. They gifted us with our beautiful reception at The Gables. This allowed me to plan the wedding I saw in my dreams, and watch it come to life. My twin sister, Kristin, and Casey’s brother, Tommy, stood by our side while we said our vows. My nephew, Kellan, and his nephew, MJ, were our handsome ring security, while my niece, Finley, and his niece, Keira, were our beautiful flower girls. Really, our wedding wouldn’t have been the perfect day it was without the rest of our family and friends by our sides. Everything was perfect!
