The restaurant biz often boasts about seasonal menus — food menus, that is. The thought of sinking our teeth into freshly sourced cuisine is what makes those venues that present farm-to-table options so irresistible.
Don’t stop at the fork, though! Seasonal drinks are festive, fresh and fun: They help us to drink outside-the-box. Set aside your usual craft brew, wine or martini and ask for something new — for every season.
Winter is for Warming
Cinnamon conjures up thoughts of crackling fireplaces, pies and everything comforting about winter. Look for martini-style cocktails that include a full cinnamon stick that you can swirl and add as deep a flavor as you like. Popular options are egg nog, pumpkin pie, Irish cream espresso, and even a Mexican mudslide.
Spring is for Waking the Senses
The days are getting longer, the air is fresh and clean, and brunch seems like a great idea, once again. As the days get longer, alfresco brunch appears on our radar, and we like a good mimosa to go with it. Mimosas are as celebratory as the weather! The classic is mostly champagne with a splash of orange juice, but encourage your bartender to mix it up. How about a syrup, like lavender, to kiss the orange juice? Prosecco is a way to add a slightly drier way to kick up other juices like grapefruit (divine with a sprig of rosemary!). We also love rosewater, and pomegranate, pear or mango juice.
Summer is for Relaxing
School’s out! Or, at least that’s the way it feels when we end the work day and settle into happy hour. What better way to kick back than with sangria infused with peaches and berries, the ultimate summer flavors, right? It’s sweet and oh so refreshing with peach moscato, peach schnapps, triple sec and a splash of club soda. Looking for more? Try a few of our other favorite summer sips that go great with light bites.
Fall is for Reflecting
With summer in the rearview, we’re reflecting on the fun we had — and looking forward to crisp weather, sweaters and new tastes. In fact, we’ve got two we love: A gingered lemon-lime martini to ease us into fall, and a scotch or bourbon flight to really get into the season. You can’t go wrong with either; did we just give you an excuse to hit the bar again?
Anytime is for Bubbles
One go-to all season drink is a flute filled with sparkling wine, Prosecco or Champagne. It goes with everything, brings fun to any occasion (Tuesday night counts) and its effervescence is four-season friendly. We can’t resist pairing bubbly with dessert. Try it next time you’re out!
Looking for a place to try these libations and more? We hope to see you at The Gables at Chadds Ford for happy hour or brunch; at the bar (which also means chilling by the fire pits in warm weather), the patio (full menu available!) or any of our cozy tables. Keep an eye on our latest cocktails and martinis, but don’t be afraid to ask for something that you’ve had your eye on. If we’ve got the ingredients, we’ll make it.
The Gables at Chadds Ford is nestled in the heart of the historic Brandywine Valley. Our combination of fresh seasonal cuisine, rustic yet elegant charm and enchanting outdoor dining will keep you coming back time and time again. The Gables is also the perfect venue to host your next special event, whether you are planning a wedding, rehearsal dinner, baby shower or corporate event.
